tribal meets utility.

Freshly fueled with a myriad of images encompassing the looks 'global traveler' 'urban sportswear' 'tribal' and 'utility chic' I seem to have made up a sort of utility tribal outfit that wraps the two styles together. Hopefully the result is something fun, and with a few adjustments could certainly work for both day or night.

ever wanted to skateboard down a really high mountain?

So this is what I wore....
I love this stuff ...the stories alone are genius, and one huge hi-five for the marketing! I am in need of the extra 'spark', and as for 'defence'- yep those sick days cos 'i'm actually sick' are endless!
Who could resist the backdrop? I thought for those who haven't read these already, the stories are sure to raise a few smiles!
(jacket- military, tee- h&m, pleated jersey skirt oasis, shoes topshop, bag- Alexander Wang diego)
So this is what I saw.... Manchester City Art Gallery
The origami dogs were genius....
The exploding cutlery and porcelain lampshade.
The incredible metal contour design chair, and the Levi 501 perching chair!!...
I hope that as I return slowly to full health- the more exciting my blog will be- more places to visit and adventures to share with you all!
Thanks for reading! Katie.xx

BMX Bandit.

BMX Bandit- my absolute fav nail paint of the minute from Collection 2000 ( can't believe it!)I am crazy about the cobalt cornflower blue shade, and can't seem to stop choosing this over all the other colours. The problem being the quality is terrible and it's pretty goopy from day 1, but well worth the patience...Topshop's Parma Violet is pretty lush too!

For days when the simple things like a vest and jeans are just what is required, it's nice to have something to throw on that transforms it into something more interesting! My giant Topshop crazy thread cardigan seems to do the trick, and as I'm always freezing I have found it great for the spring. I came across it a couple of months back in the 'get it before it's gone rail' and couldn't leave it there. Just the sort of thing I know will be perfect for chilly nights and for the autumn/winter months too. ( eek- I think you will see this many times!) katie.xx

matte orange marks return.

Barry M matte orange lipstick, 17 matt orange nails = current obsession.

This marks the start of my return to work- some followers know I have been ill for a longwhile (6 months) and starting my blog gave me some focus, and something to achieve when my normal routine was absolutely shattered. I am starting with a couple of hours on a couple of days, and hope to be back to a whirlwind of normality as soon as my body allows! I also have a huge incentive in that my worldwide summer buying conference has been moved to Las Vegas, due to such devastating flooding in Nashville.. and Las Vegas really is the most crazy, fun and non stop place a trillion percent energy is required to survive!
The tee was a gift from a customer-
Sometimes it's nice to throw on something as simple as a t-shirt and leggings or jeans and a great pair of sunnies.

(tee- Harley-Davidson, leggings- American Apparel, bodychain- h&m, leopard boots- ZARA)

pretty military.

I was waiting for a gloriously sunny day like yesterday to pick out this delicate lilac Topshop number, and the palest pink suede wedges.( a little Sonia Rykiel in style?) To lessen the sickly sweet vibe I paired them with this lightweight khaki shirt/jacket.
My all time 'loves' summed up are all things oversized, and the contrasts of loose and tight, delicate and grungy, feminine and masculine... having fun with a beautiful-ugly style...
I also look fairly awful in bright colours and so this sorbet palette of late is kind to me!

(lilac dress- Topshop current, rosary necklace - old all saints, glasses vintage 1970's, jacket- military,ring- h&m current, pale suede wedges- Kork-Ease handmade TK-MAXX what a find- so comfy! they have a website too!)

Crochet seems to have ended up somewhere around the top of my current favourite, and also wish list for summer. Flashbacks of working in All Saints, and the prospect of merchandising tie-dye crochet triangle bra crop tops once haunted me... yet now I find myself sampling the trend. Times change, and I guess our tastes and styles are ever evolving.
I'm sure I am not alone in thinking it is both oh so wrong, yet so right? Whoever would have thought we would see another appearance at Chanel after the bobbly crochets of RTW FALL 2007?! I also fell in love with Kate Bosworth at Coachella in the dusky grey pink Topshop dress.
I find myself captivated by the ingenious talent that is the 'art of crochet' along with 'lace making' and just hope that the skill survives time!

(crochet oversized top- Topshop, bodycon dress- H&M, Wangesque boots- ZARA special Edition, nailcolour- Barry M- Blueberry ice- cream, charms- various)

Balloons balloons.

Searching through magazines, old editorials, and blogs I noticed a trend of balloons as a prop! They always look brilliant, and add a real sense of fun!
I came across editorials featuring balloons of Kate Moss and Coco Rocha from Vogue Nippon Aug 08, Audrey Hepburn from 1957 Funny face, and the infamous Christian Dior perfume advert for ' Miss Dior Cherie'- all of which are sensational.

While in Barcelona I captured a bunch of balloons blowing in the wind that looked so vivid against the bright blue sky.

Veronica of The Haute Pursuit very kindly allowed me to use her striking birthday balloon shot for this post- Many many thanks!( if you haven't visited you really should!)

Out for a spot of shopping I fell in love with this mannequin in Selfridges holding a ton of shiny red balloons looking so fabulous.
I hope you enjoy this collection as much as me!  Katie.xx
